The Secret Seven
Well, not really so secretive, but we thought that sounded pretty cool. We’re so pleased to be able to say that there are seven original stallholders still at the markets today. That’s seven stallholders who were at our very first Old Bus Depot Markets back on 11 September 1994. Want to know who the originals are?
Well our resident foodies Song Kongmalavong from Song Laos Cuisine , and Fekerte Tesfaye from Fekerte’s Ethiopian Cuisine, have been feeding our market goers for the entire 20 years! And people are still absolutely loving their food.
When it comes to jewellery, Alan Temme from Australian Stone Jewellery has been delighting us with his handcrafted stone pieces, and Carol Webster from Carol’s Creations and her amazing jewellery designs are definitely an institution.
Lynne Sanders has stayed creative for the past 20 years with her Creative Silk range of hand-rolled merino felted scarves and wraps, and Matthew Judd has been surprising customers with his range of eye-catching artwork in canvas with Mean Fish.
And we absolutely cannot forget larger than life character, Bryan Loader, or ‘The Cheese Man’ as he is affectionately known. Bryan has been delighting customers with his range of cheese, olives and charcuterie under the name Mr Cheese since 1994.
We love all of stallholders but want to thank these original seven in particular for their hard work and loyalty – it’s been a great 20 years! Be sure to visit and say hi to these guys on your next visit to the markets.
