CANBERRA'S SUNDAY BEST
FROM 10AM - 4PM

Kingston Foreshore

Kingston Foreshore

The Old Bus Depot Markets is a prominent part of the exciting redevelopment area of the Kingston Foreshore, a beautiful part of Canberra where the city meets the stunning shores of Lake Burley Griffin. 19 years ago the Old Bus Depot Markets was the very first cultural attraction to begin at the Foreshore, and set in motion the rapid transformation that has made the area what it is today. The Old Bus Depot Market is now an anchor attraction in the area and provides a great concluding destination for all those exploring the surrounding neighborhood as well as a great place to kick off a walk or ride around the lake.

In addition to the Markets and the Canberra Glassworks which opened in 2007, there will soon be many more reasons to visit as the shores take of Lake Burley Griffin. The development is already starting to take shape, transforming into an enriching hub full of things to do. Think foreshore parklands, waterfront promenades, cafes, and outstanding cultural facilities.

It is the vision of the ACT Government that the Kingston Foreshore will bring together the city and the lake, creating a waterfront haven and a vibrant, cosmopolitan environment where Canberran’s and visitors can live, work and play.

Canberra Glassworks

Canberra GlassworksCanberra Glassworks is Australia’s only cultural centre that is wholly dedicated to contemporary glass art. It is a working glassworks that provides glassmaking facilities to glass artists.

Visitors to the Market can wander over and watch the glassmaking in progress, as well as take a tour and learn about glass, or even sign up for a hands on experience making a glass piece.

The Glassworks provide opportunities for visitors to learn from and interact with glass makers, set amongst the heritage of Canberra’s Kingston Powerhouse. View an exhibition, take a tour and surround yourself with beautiful art, all at the Canberra Glassworks.

Market news

  • Market Entertainment: January 2019
After the holidays we can't wait for a string of talented performances when we return on the 13th of January for Portobello Road. We've got singer/songwriter Rebecca Mann's first performance at the Markets on the last Sunday of the month. We look forward to live performances of songs form her new EP, Moon.
  • Food of the Month January 2019: Pies
Pippy's and Pippy's Hot Pies, like their name suggests, sells some of the most scrumptious pies at the Markets. The stall has been with the Old Bus Depot Markets for 24 years and it started as a project by co-owners Brian Loader and Stuart McKinnon where the latter described it as a "meeting of minds over a glass of wine."
