Market Entertainment: October 2018

We hope you enjoyed the exciting Guyy and the Fox rock the Markets during the first ever Makers-Con. Undeniably a stand out was also AFK Choir who not only sang about all things geek, but demonstrated their own rendition of Star Trek’s Bat’leth duel. It was fun to see the semi-circle crowd with smiles on their faces.

This October we celebrate the best of the swingin’ 50’s with a free taster class run by the award-winning Canberra Swing Katz on 11am for Retro Depot. They’re a fun-loving group that welcomes newcomers to try swing dance in a friendly, no-pressure environment. Also on for the month are two performers strongly influenced by the late great Johnny Cash. It’s the return of The Guitar Cases and the first performance at the Markets by Andy Nelson.

Canberra Swing Katz

The Canberra Swing Katz is a young and energetic bunch that loves celebrating the excitement of the good old days. Swing dance began as inherently social form of dancing that adapted to the music of the big bands that brought new life to music in 1930’s New York. So enjoy a touch of vintage flavour with the Free Taster Class by the Swing Katz on 11am this 14 October. For more on classes by the Swing Katz, head to their website canberraswingkatz.com

The Guitar Cases

We’re thrilled to have The Guitar Cases back bringing their unique brew of “outlaw country blues with a folk and rock influence.” Their second album, Corrugated Blues, has 12 originals and launched at the National Folk Festival in March 2016. Muddy Waters, Johnny Cash, and Fleetwood Mac are some of their influences. Listen to originals on their website theguitarcases.com

Andy Nelson

Also influenced by the great Johnny Cash, Andy Nelson will be performing at the Markets for the first time. He’s been expanding his music in Central West, NSW dedicating his time to both writing and performing. Andy says he’s always loved music for as long as he can remember.
