Art with heart
The award-winning visual artist Naomi Crowther has been a market favourite since August 1999. Thirteen years on, the 38 year old mother of two has recently upgraded her stall to the space formerly occupied by ‘Material Pleasures’, purveyors of quality recycled clothing.
The move provides Naomi with the opportunity to display her one-of-a-kind, highly collectable pieces in a dedicated gallery space. In addition to her extremely popular ‘Poppies’ series, you’ll also find her new series of coastal-themed paintings, inspired by her recent move to the South Coast of NSW.
Naomi’s artworks are well known to both locally and further afield. They have been hung alongside Archibald winners, awarded several prestigious prizes — including the Royal Canberra Art Show best print award in 2007 — and feature in private and corporate collections both locally and internationally.
Naomi first found her muse at nine years-of-age, when she joined a group of artists who set aside one room in their house as a canvas for their dabblings. ‘It was most exciting to paint on the walls without getting into trouble. Since then, painting has been a major part of my life,” she said.
A career highlight for Naomi was an appearance on the Foxtel Lifestyle Channel’s popular ‘Selling Houses Australia’ TV show, when a Canberra home featured several of her works. She has also enjoyed seven annual consecutive sell-out exhibitions with her ‘Poppies’ series at local Kingston cafe, Artespresso. It’s seems we just can’t get enough of Naomi’s beautiful pieces, and 13 years on at the markets, she’s still going strong.
