Market Entertainment: April 2019
Super Sunday and an exciting Retro Depot were fun and busy days. The latter also happened to coincide with St Patrick’s Day and saw Tir an Oir Irish Dancing. Now that Autumn is here at last, we’re feeling friendlier sunlight. Some would say it might be an even better season to visit the Markets.
We’ll make sure of that. Portobello Road on Easter Sunday on 21 April will be a great day out for families to scavenge through a range of high-quality antiques. Rebecca Mann and the Gregory Irish Dancers will both play at the event, which should make for quite a show. And be sure to see Niq Reefman when he performs live a week earlier on 14 April. Get ready for a fun time of music and storytelling.
Niq Reefman is a one-man-musical. His music truly stands out in 2019 with striking lyrics and zany yet arresting melody. Expect elements of storytelling, jazz, folk, and electronic music. Niq also plays a combo of instruments outside the norm of mainstream music, utilising an accordion and a trumpet. The Gregory Academy of Irish Dance is Canberra’s Northside Irish dance school established in 1983. They have quite a relatively large academy with dancers that range from beginners to professional competitors on the world stage. Folk music artist extraordinaire Rebacca Mann will be making her return for her second performance at the Markets. After a soothing and vibrant musical first performance, we simply had to have her back. She is also promoting the recent release of her latest album, Moon.
