Gingerbread Goodies

Whether you’re the type of person who can’t celebrate Christmas without a gingerbread house or just looking for a tasty treat to share with friends and family this festive season, a Gingerbread House made by Wendy Dansby is a must. Not only are the gingerbread houses made using the finest ingredients and of the highest quality, they also come with a heart warming story.

43 years ago Wendy’s father Ben met her mother, the same year he began working on his gingerbread recipe. Over the years that recipe was reworked and refined and 18 years ago that the family began selling Ben’s marvellous gingerbread creations at the Old Bus Depot Markets. Sadly, Wendy’s father passed away 18 months ago, but it hasn’t stopped Wendy from carrying on the tradition. She’s back for another year to carry on the legacy and has already started selling at the markets this year.

Wendy’s gingerbread houses are painstakingly assembled over a three-day period and as anyone who’s ever made a gingerbread house would know, it’s no easy feat. After cooking the dough and assembling the shape of the house, Wendy decorates each house by hand, taking care to include every detail. The recipe that was passed down to her is world famous. It has been perfected over such a long period and that’s what really sets the gingerbread apart.

Wendy hopes to carry on her father’s tradition with his renowned recipe, and by the samples we’ve tasted, she’s definitely accomplished that. The gingerbread is firm, but soft on the inside just like gingerbread should be, the decorations are not only beautiful but delicious, and Wendy’s friendly smile and passion is just the icing on the gingerbread house.
