Jerky with attitude
Starting up a food business with the goal of ‘making jerky look good’ sounds like a challenge. But partners Kristen and Chris have pulled it off well drawing a strong local following of jerky lovers.
What started out as a hobby four years ago has grown considerably, and the duo now produce a high quality jerky unlike anything else on the local Canberra market. Using 100% Australian topside beef, Perky Jerky is made by Kristen in Tuggeranong at a commercial kitchen she uses at the Calwell Tavern. The jerky is available in 15 different beef flavours including traditional style ‘Ol Smokey and interesting combinations such as Honey Soy Mustard, Chilli and Plum and Red Wine and Mushroom. Due to demand from customers, Kristen now produces several game varieties including kangaroo and crocodile. Perky Jerky is at the markets every Sunday so check them out on your next visit – you can even pick up some jerky for your pets!
