Canberra is a wonderful place to visit any time of year.  A weekend escape with a loved one, short break from the city hustle and bustle, or a longer family holiday, there truly is an experience to tempt everyone in the nation’s capital.

One of the best things about the Old Bus Depot Markets is that we’re located within walking distance of the Parliamentary Triangle and all its attractions, and also so close to the busy suburbs of Kingston and Manuka which offer an amazing array of award-winning restaurants, trendy cafes and hip bars.

After you’ve visited us, why not go from our local artists, to those on the national and international stage with a visit to the National Gallery of Australia.  You can see some of the world’s most prized works in the 160,000 piece collection as well as its famed travelling exhibitions.

Next door to the gallery, you’ll discover the National Portrait Gallery , home to the nation’s portrait collection with around 400 portraits created by some of Australia’s most recognisable and talented artists. And just nearby on the edge of Canberra’s stunning Lake Burley Griffin you’ll find the Gallery of Australian Design which explores and promotes Australian design through exhibitions and events.

Up for more? While in the area, visit the Museum of Australian Democracy, located in one of Australia’s most loved buildings – the Old Parliament House.  Oh, and swing by the neighbouring Rose Gardens, they are a truly beautiful sanctuary in the middle of the city.

Don’t slow down yet, you’ll still want to visit the Australian War Memorial, one of the world’s great museums. It’s an archive, a shrine and a place of remembrance, and a must-see on any visit to Canberra. And check out the National Museum of Australia  – this modern museum shares the stories of Australia’s land, nation and people in some of the most interesting and interactive ways.
