The first ever Makers-Con was a lot fun and it was great to see many smiling faces. We were thrilled to see people show up and dress as some of their favourite characters for the Cosplay Competition. We’d like to thank everyone for their participation and support. Also, a big thank you goes out to Philip Cristallo Photography for the event photos. And without further ado, here are the photos for Makers-Con with a few of the event highlights.

Pre-event and Promotions
Welcome to our Makers-Con webpage! We’re proud to present a new special themed event, Makers-Con. Makers-Con and the Cosplay Competition are free.
As you may know, Makers-Con is all about putting together the high-quality handmade products that the Old Bus Depot Markets is known for, with our love of pop culture. Already, we can confirm stalls specialising in costume design, steampunk, and comic books. We’ve also been hearing our regular stallholders will be also be getting into the mix with superhero-inspired products planned among other designs.
For those looking for a show, we will have AFK Choir grace the markets stage. They’re a Canberra choir that sing about all things pop culture. A bat’leth duel is also in the works. If you don’t even have to Google that, then you know exactly where to be.

Cosplay Competition (with prizes!)
No doubt, the cosplay competition is one of the things we’re looking most forward to about Makers-Con. We hope you feel the same way. As such, things are bubbling in the background and we’re talking to experts in the field of cosplay to get the details right.
There will be two groups for the cosplay competition: An Under 16’s Event and an Open Event. Sign in onsite from 10am-12pm. The Under 16’s Event starts at 12:30pm while the Open Event starts at 2pm. Dressing rooms are available.
To have prizes befitting of the event, they will be sponsored by Impact Comics and Dee’s Comics with additional prizes from Lumin’s Workshop: Cosplay and Fabrication Supplies.
We have many stalls confirmed for Makers-Con with a mix of our cherished regulars along with ones who are new to the Old Bus Depot Markets. With so many specialist stalls, here’s a glimpse of the passionate stallholders and their standout products that you can see on the day.

Dee’s Comics is Canberra’s oldest comic book store. They’re a family-owned business who has satiated the hunger of the capital’s comic book fans for over 30 years. They have a wide and varied collection of Australian and International comic books, graphic novels, collectibles, manga, and apparel. We know that they have some pretty hard-to-find copies and we can’t wait to see what they bring for Makers-Con.
To learn more about Dee’s Comics and visualise what’s in their comic book collection, visit their website at deescomics.com.au.
For exquisite attention to detail, look no further than Gallery Serpentine. You simply must see the clothing they produce. Their line of gothic, victorian, and steampunk fashion items are like a time-warp back to a time decorated by the historical designs and romance of a bygone era. With steampunk and other thematic clothing a key aspect of Makers-Con, we’re thrilled to have them with us.

If you’ve ever been to the Markets, then no doubt, you must have come across 213 Art with artworks by Matt Judd. Maybe you’ve even asked for a custom order. Because how can you not? Look at those stencil designs of the Joker. Or that cute anime girl who otherwise would not have come to life because she only exists in a niche video game. We’re excited to see what more Matt’s been working on in time for Makers-Con.

With exciting stalls, we thought we’d enlist the help of some enthralling musical acts. Coupled with the fun to be had from the cosplay competition, we will have performances by AFK Choir and Guyy and the Fox. Both groups are perfect for the event with each bound to deliver a unique and entertaining performance.
Always entertaining, Guyy and the Fox will be returning to the Markets. They always know how to put on a show and never fail to charm a semi-circle crowd once those musical strings really start rocking. With both Guyy and Amelia so adept at the guitar and violin respectively, we were thrilled when they provided their music for the event’s video promotions. We’re sure they’ll put on quite a show and keep the Markets atmosphere fun and uplifting.
Guyy and the Fox is scheduled to perform from 10am-2pm.

AFK Choir sings about a range of topics that pertain to pop culture. Think songs about Star Trek and zombies to start. They’ve only performed at the Markets once before, and seeing the warm and fun reception they received, we knew we just had to ask them to come back on for Makers-Con.
The group will have two sets of performances including a bat’leth duel from 11:15am-12:00pm and 1:00pm and 1:45pm.
To catch a glimpse of AFK Choir’s performance, they are promoting their Youtube Channel AFK.
