Wyx and Wax – not your average candles

Colour and deceiving food items that are candles, by stallholder Wyx and Wax at the Old Bus Depot MarketsWicks and wax – it’s all you need to make your average candle, right? Well the candles from Wyx and Wax, are anything but average.

Canberra local Nicole Casey has perfected the art of making candles that replicate fun sweet foods including milkshakes, cupcakes, sundaes, and perhaps the most fun of all, a bowl of Fruit Loops. This candle looks and smells EXACTLY like a bowl of Fruit Loops! Nicole says she put a lot of work into testing the handmade Fruit Loops bowl candle to ensure it’s a complete visual and scent simulation (and stimulation) of the real thing. And it is. Nicole makes all her products herself by hand using only soy based products. There’s lots of testing involved to ensure the highest quality products, and all items in the fun food range are created using silicon moulds they’ve made themselves to ensure they look as real as they can. And there’s a lot of love involved – just one milkshake candle takes a few hours to make.

Nicole is at the markets with her Wyx and Wax range including the food range – there’s also liquorice allsorts, chocolate blocks and macarons – bath and body products, goats’ milk based soaps and vintage reproduction glassware. Wyx and Wax can also make customised items, and most of their glassware is refillable at a discounted rate. Stop in and see Nicole from Wyx and Wax every second Sunday at the markets.
